Somayya and Adil’s Cincinnati Islamic Wedding at the Islamic Center of Greater Cincinnati
Somayya and Adil, both living in New York, connected with me through another Dayton, OH wedding photographer. After the general greetings during our first phone call together, I remember the conversation taking this incredibly exciting turn:
Me: What do you do?
Adil: I work at New York University as a…..
Me: I LOVE New York University. Can I pah-llleeeeasse shoot your wedding??!!
This is not an exaggeration. Anyone who knows me from my high school days know that NYU was on my radar as the school I wanted to attend. Fast forward ten years and even without an east-coast diploma, my heart still flutters a bit when I make a connection related to NYU. I’m not sure that this high-school enthusiasm for his place of employment is what convinced Adil (and his fiance, Somayya) to hire me, but I’m sure glad they did.
Featured here is the first of the couple’s three-day wedding celebration. Typical of a Pakistani/South Asian event, the first day includes a Nikah (marriage) ceremony followed by a Mehendi (dance party). Enjoy!
